Elizabeth Claypole was the second daughter of Oliver Cromwell. She was loved by her father but was often at odds with him over the bloodshed that his protectorate was responsible for. After her death on 6 August 1658 her father’s poor health declined rapidly. He failed to recover from her loss and succumbed to septicaemia one month later.
