George I, Capture of the Jacobite Rebels at Preston Silver Medal, 1715

The Battle of Preston (9-14 November 1715) was fought during the Jacobite Rising of 1715. The Jacobites fought to regain the British throne for the exiled House of Stuart under “The Old Pretender” James Francis Edward. British government forces were ordered to halt a Jacobite advance that was growing in numbers as it progressed through Scotland and the north of England. Preston was barricaded in preparation for a Government force siege, which the Jacobites endured for four days until all rebel factions surrendered. A total of 1,468 Jacobites were taken prisoner, 463 of them English.
