This medal commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Utrecht. The Treaty was signed by the European States who were embroiled in the War of the Spanish Succession. The Treaty of Utrecht concluded many disputes between Spain, Great Britain, France, Portugal, Savoy and the Dutch Republic, and although war did not cease entirely it was the greatest step towards peace in Europe since the turn of the century.
