This coin has featured in four of the finest and most extensive English coin collections ever assembled and has been the prize example of its type in all of the collections it has appeared in. The Locket sale of 1956 illustrated the extent of its quality describing the coin as ‘in beautiful state for this excessively rare coin’ where it was bought by Spink for £190, which was £30 more than a spur ryal that would currently fetch in excess of £60,000.
