The Battle of Cape Passaro took place on 11th August 1718 between British and Spanish fleets at Cape Passaro, the southern cape of Sicily due to the Spanish occupation of Sicily and Sardinia. The British fleet was led by Admiral George Byng and the Spanish fleet by Admiral Fernando Chacón and Admiral Antonio de Gaztañeta.

The British fleet defeated the Spanish fleet. Four months later the War of the Quadruple Alliance began.
