Struck in celebration of the ‘Storming of Bristol’ on 26th July 1643. The city and port of Bristol was successfully captured from the Parliamentarians by Royalist forces under the command of Prince Rupert of the Rhine.
The medal represents Charles’ Royalist forces during a successful period of the English Civil War when they were prepared to fight but not as the antagonist, they were willing to either defend the king’s position and authority or negotiate a peaceful conclusion to the war.
