Commonwealth, Crown, Tanner's Copy (struck 1738) dated 1658This rare pattern crown is the work of John Sigismund Tanner who was one of the engravers at the Royal Mint from 1727 to 1758. The crown was produced using Thomas Simon’s punches that were used to strike Cromwell’s original coins. The punches were repaired and new die legends were cut to produce this coin that was struck to be sold to a small number of collectors.
